The festive season is almost here! The impact of COVID-19 has lingered through the year of 2020 and persists, leaving us with a massive change in the way we now socialise. Although a little different this year, we’re still in the spirit of the holidays while staying safe and healthy. Here are our top go-to locations in KZN to enjoy the holidays while still maintaining social distancing and staying healthy.
Pick a beach
December in South Africa means festive fun in the sun! A great way to enjoy the festive season is to take advantage of the KZN’s coastal weather. Take a stroll through one of the less crowded beaches and cool off as the waves wash over your feet. Sea air and some sun is great for your overall health levels and peace of mind. You can end your day off with a quiet braai and time with your closest loved ones while watching the waves break on the shore.
KZN’s dams
KZN hosts a range of water bodies other than the famous beaches on offer. One of the most prominent is the Midmar dam located near Howick and Pietermaritzburg. Providing an expansive reserve, you can take a short drive and park under one of the large trees to relax under before getting busy with a host of recreational water sports to choose from. You can opt to hire a little boat and get out on the water or take a dive to cool off. Midmar dam hosts ideal spots for evening picnics or morning fishing trips, as you take in the fresh air that the Midlands provides.
Take the trail
KZN is home to several trails and open green areas showcasing the ideal outdoor environment that is perfect for all ages. Whether you opt to walk closer to home or further inland, take advantage of the fresh air and green parks around the corner. The Sibaya Coastal Precinct provides a network of safe nature trails as well as the Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve with its boardwalks providing safe passage into the forest.
KZN showcases some of the best local spots in the country to enjoy the festive season despite the worldwide pandemic. We encourage you to have a safe and healthy holiday over this incoming period.
